Great Expectations

Thoughts and feelings are very difficult for adults to understand and yet there can be such great expectations on children to be able to explain their internal world. “Tell me what’s the matter?” “Why are you crying?” “Why did you do that?” “Why are you so angry?” It takes a long time for children’s brains to develop the function of being able to link their physical and emotional feelings to words. It can take even longer for them to be able to fully understand, and then articulate, things that trigger those strong feelings.

Our range of resources support children in the exploration of their thoughts and feelings; exploring types and levels of thoughts and feelings, transitions between different states, physical symptoms, noticing change over time in addition to beginning to identify some effective coping strategies.
