Often there is a discrepancy between what we are thinking and the actual truth of the situations we find ourselves in. 

Such consistent negative thoughts are referred to as ‘thinking errors’ or ‘cognitive distortions’.  Having thinking errors is a very normal part of being human.  Once we know what our most common thinking errors are, we can start to question them; are these thoughts true?  Are there exceptions to the times when these thoughts are true?  Where is my evidence that these thoughts are true?  From there, we can start to be our own cheerleader, pointing out the truth to our thinking errors and replacing them with clear, positive, truthful messages.
