Social Solar System

The Social Solar System Card Set contains the main symbol for the child (The Sun).  There are nine other planet cards to represent people in the child’s system (which can be printed out for as many people as the child needs). 

Each of the nine planet cards has a box in which the name of, or relationship to, each person identified by the child. The idea is that the child is placed in the centre and then, just like in a Solar System, the planets will radiate outwards from the Sun.  The planets closest to the Sun are the people the child feels are most relevant and important to them and the people on the outer rings of the Solar System are people the child feels are least significant.  There are two other cards; a cover card and a Solar System label card.

Lynne would use this activity both in the initial assessment phase and then revisit periodically through review processes, to ascertain whether there had been any changes. This card set lends itself very well to being reused – the cards could be laminated and white board markers can be used to label the cards. Equally, you can download and print for as many children as you need to work with.
