Exploring and Valuing Individual Strengths

We want children to believe in the best they can be and know their incredible value.  One way we can help children is to help them develop an affirmation practice (talking about their strengths). When we say affirmations, help to change the way our brains work.  Affirmations help our brains to focus away from our strong connections with more difficult emotions (such as guilt, shame and anxiety) and strengthen our brains connections with more positive emotions. This in turn helps our mental health and relationships.

Another way we can help children to think more positively about themselves is to give them, and teach them to give, targeted praise. Taking the time to notice the child and then talk to them about this warmly with them can have a really valuable impact on their self-worth and relationships.
