Play Matters

Children’s primary form of communication is through the language of play. Through play and the creation of stories, children can explore their past and current experiences, in addition to thoughts about the future, in a way that enables them to test things out, develop new skills, master situations and become empowered to work towards positive change.  It can enhance their emotional literacy, have a positive effect upon their mental health and help to form their own inner story about who they are as a person.  Play and story telling can also have positive effects on core development areas, including speech and language skills, motor skills and social interaction skills.
